My main research interest is strong gravity, which is an extremely diversified subject, embracing areas as diverse as astrophysics, gravitation and particle physics. I am interested in various questions related to these subjects and especially in problems at the interface between them.

My research is focused on black-hole and neutron-star physics, in particular tests of gravity, gravitational-wave astrophysics, and investigations of dark-matter candidates based on the dynamics of compact objects. I am also interested  in the foundations of General Relativity.

Richard Brito, Vitor Cardoso, and I recently published a new book on the physics of superradiance. This monograph gives a unified picture of the multifaceted subject of superradiance, with a focus on recent developments in the field, ranging from fundamental physics to astrophysics. The book covers all our current understanding on the physics of the amplification of waves by a medium, including classical effects such as the Cherenkov effect. The main body of the book deals with superradiance in black hole physics, with important applications in astrophysics and particle physics. Each chapter ends with a list of outstanding open problems and future directions.
